75 easy fun Easter crafts and activities for 3 years olds (toddlers, preschoolers+ all little kids!)

Inside: 75 fun and incredibly easy Easter crafts for 3-year-olds and other young children of the toddler and preschooler age

What’s more exciting? The arrival of Spring or Easter around the corner?  Well, the answers are plain and simple, depending on your age.

For me it’s all about the chocolate, for my kids, 3 and 4, they can’t wait to see daffodils bloom.

Kidding. Obviously.

Anyway, so at this age, kids have firmly grasped that the Easter Holiday means an Easter egg hunt.  Then stashing and gorging on chocolate and other delightful teeth-rotting candies.

Because I’m a mean mom (to some), my kids aren’t allowed to eat all their stash in one go or whenever takes their fancy.  So we do at least avoid too much of the sugar-induced pandemonium and meltdowns, but that’s a completely different topic altogether.

So, the one issue with starting on any Easter craft for a 3-year-old is the endless  “how long”, “how many days” until it’s Easter Sunday…Of course, for most 3-year-olds, the concept of time is very limited, so it’s an entirely fruitless conversation.

Start on the Easter chick crafts, I say!  Easter chicks have a strong association with Easter for good reason: the hatching chick signifies new life as well as re-birth, the egg symbolizing the tomb from which Christ was resurrected.

It’s never too early to understand the meaning behind the festivities, is it?  I admit, I haven’t yet tried to explain that to my two, but if I’m feeling the need for an extra challenge this year, I’ll give it a shot.

So other than Easter chick crafts there are Sunday School/ religious Easter crafts as well as Easter egg crafts, Easter card ideas, Easter basket crafts and, of course, plenty of Easter bunnies.   This list of easy Easter crafts for 3-year-olds is split into those categories.

But first, my favorite Easter craft ideas: the simplest Easter crafts.  Yes, all of them are easy, but these are the simplest of the lot.

With simple supplies that don’t include paint.  Or that horribly-sticky-and-gets-everywhere-in-the-hands-of-a-3-year-old white glue, type supplies.

These are the ones to choose when you find your limited in time, sanity or patience you have.  Or a combination of any of those.  There’s nothing worse than having to abort mission halfway through.

Pick, chose, enjoy!

Happy Easter.

Getting older or younger siblings involved

This post is written specifically with 3-year-olds in mind but many will interest kids of all ages, particularly older children.

Older kids can help prepare the craft, the supplies or you can simply give them more autonomy.  For example, crafts with printables may need cutting out.  That’s a job for older kids who can perfect their fine motor skills.

Younger kids will probably need more help.  Perhaps pick something from the simplest Easter craft ideas at the beginning.  Or try these  simple Easter crafts for toddlers instead.

You can never go too simple when it comes to kids, can you?

(For more super easy activities for little ones of the non-craft variety, check out these easy indoor activities, outdoor play ideas and fun gross motor activities.)

The SIMPLEST Easter crafts for 3-year-olds (no prep, minimal mess)

These ones are the ones to start with if you’re after super easy Easter crafts for your 3-year-old.

They use basic craft supplies, require little prep (often have free printables) and should be minimal mess.  I’m a big fan of crafts that fall into this category!

There are plenty to chose from in this category as I’ve nabbed a few from this Easter craft post aimed at younger toddlers.  Easy is always best, whatever the age, right?!

Pompom painted Easter egg craft - easy art activity for 3 year olds toddlers preschoolers
Pompom painted Easter egg craft from @art_with_georgie

#23 Pompom painted Easter egg craft

A pretty decorated Easter egg craft, using pompoms held with clothespins instead of paintbrushes.  Not only is this a fun and interesting way to hone fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. but patterning is an important pre-maths skill.

If your 3 year old wants to paint and smudge their own creations that’s also fine.

Tissue paper dyed Easter egg craft for preschoolers
Tissue paper dyed Easter eggs from Savvy Mama Lifestyle

#24 Tissue paper dyed Easter eggs

There are quite a few egg-dying techniques around but I particularly like this one which uses tissue paper.  What’s more, once the eggs are hard-boiled, anything goes when it comes to the decorating and dying part.

Your 3-year-old can spray the eggs with water using a spray bottle (also good for those finger muscles), then cut and shred the tissue paper and stick all over.

Spray again and allow to dry.  Peel off and voila! Dyed and decorated. Great process art with such an effective end result, making it a must-do Easter craft in my book.

Note: unfortunately you do need to use “bleeding tissue paper” rather than the normal stuff.

Melted crayon Easter craft from Red Ted Art to preschoolers and toddlers
Melted crayon Easter egg craft from Red Ted Art

#25 Melted crayon Easter craft

My two loved the melted crayon rocks we did earlier in the year – what a clever idea to do it with real eggs, hot hard-boiled ones.

Simply hold a crayon onto the hot egg and let all the colors drip and run down the sides, then allow to dry.

Obviously, be careful of little fingers burning – a strong grip of the crayon is needed and a preschooler who is moderately good at listening to your warning!

Marbled Easter egg artwork toddler craft from @allthingsroar
Marbled Easter egg artwork craft from @allthingsroar

#26 Marbled Easter egg artwork

The last time I tried marbling with my two was a complete disaster! Never mind about the lack of anything pretty like above, it was the sheer amount of colored shaving cream that was all over most of their bodies as well as all over the table.

While it was a great sensory activity for them, it’s rather scarred me for life. That was when they were 1 and just 2 years old… so maybe at 3 and 4, we might all do better, but it’s definitely one I will take outside just in case…

As you can see from the Easter egg craft above, the finished product can be rather lovely. And all you need is shaving cream and dollops of paint or a few drops of food coloring.

Worth a try if you’re feeling brave, perhaps?

Marbled Easter eggs from Creative Green Living for older kids perhaps
Marbled Easter eggs from Creative Green Living

#27 Marbled Easter eggs

Another marbling one but this time with “marbling paint”.   Like the shaving foam marbling, this one definitely has the potential to be horribly messy so may be best saving for when your 3 year old is a little older.

The end result looks simply stunning though so I couldn’t not include it…

What’s more, if you use wooden craft eggs, as they did in the photo above, this will make a lovely decoration for many Easters to come.

Simple EASTER CHICK crafts for 3-year-olds

Loads of fun and easy chick crafts for preschoolers and toddlers alike here – not only for Easter, there’s nothing like a spring chick to brighten the day.

Cute Easter chick craft for preschoolers and toddlers
Cute Easter chick craft for preschoolers from Fun Money Mom

#29 Hatching Easter chicks craft

A blown egg and the delicate hands of your 3-year-old are the main ingredients to this Easter chick craft.

Haha I hear you say! Yes, I agree, this one may be suited to older kids a little better, just depends a little on the skills and mood of your preschooler.  My daughter will love giving the little chicks a home.  She may even have the gentle touch this requires…(Or am I being naive?!)

fun easy Eggbox hens and chick craft from @createaparty3 for toddlers and preschoolers
Eggbox hens and chick craft from @createaparty3

#30 Eggbox hens and chick craft

This is an easy Easter craft that makes good use of things that would otherwise end up in the trash which I’m all for.  Then once complete I reckon any 3-year old will have loads of fun playing with them afterward – I’m sure they will keep my two busy for ages.

Tissue paper decorated Easter egg craft for preschoolers
Tissue paper decorated Easter egg craft for preschoolers from Red Ted Art

#31 Easter chick craft

In this Easter craft, blown eggs are modge podged with tissue paper and then decorated with feathers, felt beaks and googly eyes. (So prepare for lots of stickiness!)

Once dry the modge podge will become hard so the colorful little chicks should make a pretty decoration for many Easters to come.  If the thought of blown eggs is too much with a 3-year-old in tow, why not try this with wooden eggs or these plastic eggs.

#36 Easter bunny nature collage

An Easter Craft for 3-year-olds that brings the outside in, bright and colorful and full of the signs of Spring.

Not only that, but the results could be quite amusing depending on where eyes and nose end up.  We did something similar with parts of the face cut out of magazines and my daughter’s was quite funny and a little freaky.

I can’t wait to see how this Easter bunny will turn out.

Printable Resurrection Set Religious Easter Craft For Kids 3 year olds
Printable Resurrection Set from Catholic Icing

#69 Printable Resurrection Set (free printables)

This is a religious Easter craft for kids of all ages who can learn the story of The Resurrection.   Rather like a nativity set, use the free printables to create your very own set of angles, St Mary Magdalen, Jesus, soldiers and so on.

Part of the set includes a tomb, which cleverly uses an old tissue box in conjunction with the printable.

#70 Jelly Bean Prayer (Free Printable)

The Jelly Bean Prayer is a great way to help little ones learn about Resurrection Sunday (Easter Sunday).  Each color is symbolic of some part of the Resurrection which has been put together into a poem:

Red is for the blood he gave

Green is for the grass he made

Yellow is for the sun so bright

Orange is for the edge of night

Black is for the sins we made

White is for the grace He gave

Purple is for the hour of sorrow

Pink is for a new tomorrow

A bag full of jelly beans, colorful and sweet, is a prayer, is a promise, is an Easter treat!

You place the prayer with the jelly beans with a bag and hand out to your kids on Easter Sunday.  Grab the free printable from Down Redbud Drive.

Fun Easter ACTIVITIES to do with 3-year-olds

While it’s lovely to create some cute Easter crafts, often 3-year-olds just want to just “do” and simply play.  This is, of course, totally normal and to be encouraged.

So providing toddlers and preschoolers with opportunities to explore new materials and textures, with sensory activities such as messy play, finger painting and other process art is essential whatever the time of year

So this section has the emphasis on the doing.  You might end up with something cute and worthy of a picture at the end but that’s not necessarily the aim.

What’s nice about doing activities rather than a “craft”, is that your 3 year old may want to come back to them time and time again.  What’s more, often they don’t require your help, meaning time for a cuppa or more…

For supplies and materials for these activities, check out our recommended product list.

Easter Egg Sensory Bin For Toddlers

#72 Easter Egg Sensory Bin For Little Kids

This activity will offer your 3-year-old the opportunity to explore a sensory bin with an Easter theme.  Not only will they enjoy new textures and the bright egg colors, but I can see a lot of small world play going on… That Easter bunny will definitely be laying some eggs I reckon!

(Bookmark these winter themed sensory bins and Christmas sensory activities for later in the year.)

#73 Playdough (or salt dough) decorated Easter eggs

Squishing, rolling, squeezing and smushing playdough is such a great sensory experience for toddlers and preschoolers. It helps strengthen hand and finger muscles and is also relaxing and sure to calm down most the over-excited of toddlers and preschoolers.

Some Easter-shaped cookie cutters are all you need to turn playdough into a fun festive activity for your 3-year-old.

If you did want to make a more permanent craft, you could do this activity with salt dough instead.  My two loved making these salt dough Christmas decorations  – the concept is the same, just with different shaped cookie cutters.

Texture eggs are a great sensory activity for toddlers preschoolers and babies
Make some “textured eggs” for a fun sensory that all little kids will enjoy

#74 Textured eggs

You can make “textured eggs” by filling balloons, with the help of a funnel, with different cupboard staples like flour, rice and dried beans etc. The flour-filled one was the most popular with my 3-year-old and I loved it too – feels just like one of those squishy stress balls.

These are great for little kids of all ages.  Textured eggs make a fun Easter themed activity for babies. The twins, at 8 months old, enjoyed simply holding them and squeezing them.  My older 2 played a game of lay the egg, look after the egg, hatch the egg, hide the egg…. it was pretty endless!

playing with plastic eggs is a fun activity for toddlers and preschoolers
The possibilities are endless with some plastic eggs

#75 Decorate, play with, scoop and poor with, hide, hunt plastic eggs

Basically, anything with plastic eggs is sure to keep a 3 year old entertained! They’re great for hiding things in, scooping and pouring water, decorating with stickers… there are countless possibilities.

You could even just give your toddler or preschooler some plastic eggs and see what they come up with. – their imagination is often a lot better than ours.

Write an Easter bunny letter as a fun activity for toddlers preschoolers
Write the Easter bunny a letter or draw a picture from Mom Skoop

#76 Write the Easter Bunny a letter or draw a picture

Why not encourage your 3-year-old to draw the Easter bunny a picture of their favorite treat they’d like him to bring?  Or something they’ve enjoyed doing this year.

Older toddlers and preschoolers may be able to write some words or their name, but drawing a picture is a good place for a 3-year-old to start. Grab the free printable Easter Stationery from Mom Skoop here.

3 year olds will love making these Easter bunny cookies

#78 Easter Bunny Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

I’ll be the first to admit that baking with a 3-year-old can be challenging and beyond messy!  And in this one, unlike most of the other activities, you are heading for a decent finished product.

But if you’re having any visitors over the Easter holidays and you’d plan to bake, making these bunny sugar cookies will kill two birds with one stone.  Click the link above for a gluten-free recipe.

Printable Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt

#79 Printable Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt (free printables)

Kids love scavenger hunts – even more so when there are treats involved! But with a scavenger hunt like the one above, you could limit the candy to a single “egg with chocolate”.

Some of those brightly colored plastic eggs will come in handy here and with a few stickers and washi tape you can make up the other eggs on the list.  Or simply print a scavenger hunt template omitting the text and make up your own list – you’ll find all the templates via the link above.

Which of these easy Easter crafts for 3-year-olds are you going to pick first?

A little about me

Mom of 4 kids, baby sleep expert plus home organisation and kids activities and crafts

Hi, I'm Sarah

Mom of four outrageously gorgeous Littles.  Yup, four!  The twins are now two and that title still brings me out in a cold sweat… Yet I’m just as determined to give them the best without losing my mind.  I reckon it’s possible!  Most days.

I love a challenge and have to find out they ‘why’, ‘what’ or ‘how to’  –  there are rather a lot of these when it comes to kids…

I also love, love, love things to be neat and tidy and just so.   The Littles normally have other ideas!
