About this item

  • STATIC CLING - VELIMAX blackout window film uses static cling which means no adhesive is needed. The non adhesive material is suited to temporary uses. It is easy to apply and remove and it can even be reused. Soapy water is the key ingredient, and PEELING OFF THE BACKING LINER is necessary. The sun blocking window vinyl is a great substitute for curtains or window blinds.
  • 100% LIGHT BLOCKING - Our white blackout window film stops 100% of daylight and also provides comprehensive two-way privacy. Ideal for babies or toddlers who struggle with falling asleep, or shift workers who need to sleep during daytime hours.
  • HEAT CONTROL & SAFE - This white version blackout window cover does a great job of controlling the excess heat. Thanks to the white color, it won't absorb too much heat during hot summer. It has no risk of breaking glass, and it's safe for using on all kinds of glass.
  • REUSABLE WINDOW FILM - With the glue free design, the window film is very easy to remove and reuse, no residue left. Roll up and keep it well when you don't need it until next time application.
  • WIDE APPLICATION SCOPES - The static cling white-out window film is ideal to use on glass door panels, mirrored wardrobes, conservatories, shower screens and garden sheds. The glass must be smooth and flat. You can DIY this film as a glass décor by cutting it into any shape..

Installation Guide

How to Install the Blackout Window Film?

  • A small utility knife with breakaway blades is the best tool for trimming film. Film can dull a blade edge quickly; and a dull blade can tear film.
  • Fill a spray bottle with a soapy water solution: to 1qt. bottled water, add 1/4 tsp of liquid soap. Avoid using concentrated or degreasing detergents. If you can't find proper liquid soap, the clean water is also OK for the solution.

How to remove the air bubbles?

Use a plastic card to squeegee air bubbles and water. If it's hard to get rid of the bubbles, uncover the window film, spray more water between the glass and the film and squeegee firmly again. Water will make it much easier to remove bubbles.

Any tips to peel off the protective liner?

Attach 2 pieces of transparent tape to the front andback surfaces of a corner of the film. Press the 2 pieces of tape firmly together, then quickly pull them apart to begin separating the clear liner away from the static side of the film.

Can I remove the film at a later stage?

Absolutely. Our blackout film is removable and reusable. You can just simply peel the film off the glass in seconds with no mess.

Why the film fall off after a while?

Please check if you have removed the liner, trimmed the edges or queegeed excess water and bubbles. Leave a 1/16” wide gap around the four perimeter edges of the film. This gap is essential for the proper thermal expansion of the glass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly for shift workers who need to black out a window
Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2023
I have a side window in our master bedroom that gets sun streaming through it during certain times of the day when I’m trying to sleep in preparation for night shift. I have a Levelor room darkening shade already but it still allows a 1/4” of light to stream around its edges. With this white film now covering the window I now have no light streaming around the edges. This film is super easy to install if you follow the directions. I bought a window tint kit to help with the installation and it made it a breeze to install. The only thing I would have done differently would be to cut the film to my exact window size before installing. I kept two of the factory edges of the film and left the other two sides overhanging about 1/2” and cut it in place but this film is so thick it was kind of hard to get the perfect cut when installing so I have a small gap that is letting light in on the bottom. Other then that I have no complaints. Since this film is white and not black I don’t have to worry about overheating the window and possibly cracking it. If you need to block light from getting into any area of your house this is the product to buy and it looks a lot better then using aluminum foil. Doesn’t look like a crack house with this film on the window.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but light leaks around the edges
Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2022
Picture: Amazon travel blackout curtain on the left, Velimax white blackout film on the right. Dark picture is taken with curtains pulled overtop of the blackouts. Both pictures taken on the same day, at noon

Light: the instructions require that you leave 1/16" of glass free of film around the edges, and a lot of sunlight can come in that 1/16". Other than that, it does a great job of blocking out the light. It certainly does better than the fleece blanket I was throwing over the curtains before this.

Application: I found the film applied easily enough. I was able to skip the spray bottle and just use a wet (slightly soapy) microfiber. Instead of trimming once the film was on the window, I measured the window and cut the film with scissors beforehand. In my opinion it's easier than using a box knife even though I did find that I needed to trim a little bit more off the edges once I had started applying since my measurements weren't quite precise enough.

Pros: Affordable, darkens room significantly, looks sleek and intentional/professional.

Cons: Not exactly "blackout," needs some preparation to apply (could be problematic for people who have difficulties cutting, squeegee -ing, or keeping steady hands)
